I was a physics major at SUNY Cortland, thinking I wanted to teach high school. My student-teaching experience showed me that I didn’t, but working as a nursing assistant showed me something I was passionate about.

My cousin, who was working at South Nassau Communities’ Hospital, is the one who suggested I become a nursing assistant. So I got that invaluable experience while I was studying at Phillips-Beth Israel School of Nursing.

I worked at Nassau Communities Hospital in Patient Care Services—they called us the Comfort Squad. I fed and transported patients, retrieved meds and supplies, and worked with the blood bank and the lab.

I’m an RN, CNII at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in pediatric oncology. I had wanted to work in the ER, but when I discovered pediatrics, I said, “This is it.” I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
