Workforce Shortage Student Assistance Grant Program

The State of Maryland has an extensive array of financial aid programs in the form of grants, scholarships and other awards for students who want to further their education beyond high school. This award is open to current high school seniors and degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students. Students who wish to be considered for the Living Expenses Grant must also file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The State Nursing Scholarship is not based on need. The Living Expenses Grant is based on student need as demonstrated by information reported on the FAFSA. Each recipient is required to sign a promissory note with the Maryland Higher Education Commission that states he/she will fulfill the nursing service obligation. The obligation requires the recipient to serve as a nurse on a full-time basis, one year for each academic year, or portion thereof, tuition assistance was received; or on a part-time basis, two years for each academic year, or portion thereof, tuition assistance was received.
