New Mexico Health Professional Loan Repayment Program

The Health Professional Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP) provides repayment for outstanding student loans of practicing health professionals. As a condition of the program, a health professional must make a two year service commitment to practice full-time in a designated medical shortage area in New Mexico. The following health occupations are given priority in funding: allopathic physician, osteopathic physician and physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, allied health care providers, mental health care providers, podiatrists, optometrists, and dentists.

New York State Regents Professional Opportunities Scholarship

These awards are for New York residents who economically disadvantaged and members of a minority group who are underrepresented in their chosen profession. Applicants must be full time students and have matriculated in an accredited program in New York State. Nursing applicants must be in a four year BSN program as a registered nurse or working toward their Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner. Upon completion of study, recipients must work in New York State as a licensed professional in their field of study for one year for each annual payment received.

Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania

Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania is a non-profit foundation sponsoring a scholarship program dedicated to supporting Pennsylvania residents who are pursuing a program of basic (Diploma, Associate, BSN, LPN) or advanced nursing (Master's, Doctoral) education in an educational institution located in Pennsylvania, and intend to practice in the state. Students who are enrolled in an RN/BS nursing program because they have already completed a diploma or Associate nursing program are not eligible to apply. Scholarships are awarded to students who enter professional nursing programs, practical nursing programs, and advanced degree programs. Recipients are chosen by a committee of nurses and consumers from all parts of the Commonwealth. The awards are based on merit, involvement in community service, and leadership potential, and are awarded in the spring of the academic year, to be expended in that same semester.

Norman Craven Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible by the generosity of the late Norman Craven. Shore Medical Center will administer scholarship awards to students pursuing careers in Allied Health or Nursing who have graduated from Ocean City High School or Mainland Regional High School.

North Carolina Masters Nurse Scholars Program (M-NSP), Graduate Program

An 11-member Nurse Scholars Commission selects recipients for the award on the basis of superior academics, leadership potential, and desire to practice nursing on a full-time basis in North Carolina. Recipients must be US citizens and North Carolina residents. Students must plan to enter a master’s level nursing program at one of the participating North Carolina colleges or universities. Financial need is not a criterion. Recipients enter into a contract with the State of North Carolina to work full time as a master's-prepared nurses or to teach in a nurse education program in North Carolina. Twelve months of service as a full-time nurse cancels one full year of NSP support. A minimum of six months consecutive full-time employment with one employer is required to qualify for service cancellation.

These awards are available through the financial aid offices of North Carolina colleges and universities that offer nurse education programs which prepare students for licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Registered Nurse (RN). Applicants must be US citizens and NC residents. Recipients enter into a contract with the State of North Carolina to work full time as licensed nurses in North Carolina. A minimum of six months consecutive full-time employment with one employer is required to qualify for service cancellation.

North Carolina Nurse Scholars Program

Created by the 1989 General Assembly, this program was designed to address the shortage of trained nurses practicing in North Carolina. Half of the award is made available to recipients in the fall semester and the remainder in the spring semester. The NSP scholarship/loan is renewable. Subject to legislative funding up to three years. Up to 400 NSP scholarships/loans are awarded annually. The NSP scholarship/loan recipient enters into a contract with the State of North Carolina to work full time as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Twelve months of service as a full-time nurse cancels one year of NSP funding support received. Service repayment must be completed within seven years from graduation. The interest rate for cash repayment is 10% and cash repayment must be repaid within ten years from graduation.

North Dakota Board of Nursing Education Loan Program

This is a loan for North Dakota residents who are students in associate, bachelors and masters degree programs in nursing. It also is available to graduate nurse students pursuing a doctorate and nurses enrolled in a refresher course. The recipient must agree to repay the loan by nursing employment in the state of North Dakota. The repayment rate is one dollar per hour of employment. Faculty members on a full-time contract will receive 2,080 hours per year.

Northeast Georgia Health System Cancelable Loan Nurses Program

The Northeast Georgia Health System Service Cancelable Loan program addresses the critical shortage of Registered Nurses (RN), particularly in northeast Georgia. Students who become RNs after successfully completing the program and passing the licensing exam can cancel all or part of their loan debt by working full-time for the Northeast Georgia Health System for a specified length of time. The nurses receive their full salary in addition to canceling their loan debt. Graduates who do not fulfill the service obligation must repay their loans, plus interest, where applicable. Individuals interested in participating in this program should contact the financial aid office at one of the following eligible schools: North Georgia College & State University, Brenau University, Piedmont College, or the Augusta Campus of the Medical College of Georgia.

Nurse Support Program II – Graduate Nursing Faculty Scholarship and Living Expenses Grant - Maryland

The State of Maryland has an extensive array of financial aid programs in the form of grants, scholarships and other awards for students who want to further their education beyond high school. This award is open to eligible students who are sponsored by a Maryland higher education institution to complete the graduate education necessary to become a qualified nursing faculty at a Maryland higher education institution. To be considered for the Living Expenses Grant, an applicant must also complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To be eligible for the Graduate Nursing Faculty Scholarship, an individual must be a Maryland resident and be enrolled at a Maryland college or university in a Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) program or another graduate-level nursing program required to prepare individuals to become nursing faculty.
