Chinran C.

Alexandria, VA
RN; Operating Room

I know many people still think that only women are nurses, but that’s not true at all! I have worked with just as many men as I have women. In fact, my nephew just graduated from nursing school. Being a nurse is much different than I thought it would be — it’s so much more than bedside care! It’s a very technical and intellectual field. The most fulfilling aspect about working in the OR is being able to put patients at ease. It can be very hectic when we dealing with trauma patients, but I love helping them. The Air Force has been a wonderful experience for me. It is incredibly supportive and I feel like I am part of a family here. I am getting my master’s degree part-time and the Air Force is paying 75 percent of my tuition. In addition, my supervisors are very flexible with my hours while I am in school. Balancing work, raising two kids and going to school at night is difficult at times, but I know it’s all worth it. I have absolutely no regrets.
