Joffrey K.

Fairfax, VA
Student

At the beginning, my decision to attend nursing school was more a whim than a commitment. But as I learned more about how and why patients hurt, and how I could help ease their pain, my motivation and commitment grew each day. Of course, nursing isn’t an exact science, and there’s simply no answer to a situation that’s a hundred percent correct. But nursing school prepares you to do a specific job — to help people. All the knowledge, lab practice and clinical training prepare you to meet the challenges of the profession. In nursing, we confront human challenges every day. It’s about making a difference in the lives of others while learning and growing as a person and as a professional. It’s about helping a woman who’s just experienced a difficult labor and is having a hard time speaking English, or comforting a worried parent whose child has been injured. It’s about life in its entirety — not just science.
