Sharon Z.

Pittsburgh, PA
RN

I am employed as an advanced registered nurse in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I received my BSN degree from Temple University. I am proud to say that during my time at Allegheny General I have designed an innovative vacation system for nurses working in my unit. I also served on the scheduling committee for the past five years and occasionally work as a charge nurse. My favorite thing about nursing is the interaction with the patients and their families. I once cared for a patient who had open heart surgery and needed a lot of emotional support. That patient and his wife called me his “guardian angel.” Now, when he comes back to visit the hospital for regular checkups, he never forgets to visit me to thank me again for my time and support. Knowing you have touched someone else’s life is what makes nursing so rewarding.
