RN, Occupational Health Nurse
I've been an Occupational Health Nurse for 10 years, and an RN for 17 years, and I’ve never once regretted my career path. Occupational Health has been a wonderful opportunity to utilize a great blend of my previous nursing experiences. I've been so fortunate to enjoy a varied and challenging life as a nurse thus far! As an Occupational Health Nurse with Johnson & Johnson, I've used every nursing skill I've ever mastered, plus I’ve learned many new things about business, manufacturing, and helping well people to become even healthier. People get sick or hurt at work, and my ER experience comes into play. When we do physical exams, diagnostic testing, and travel medicine, my clinic experience comes in handy. When counseling an employee one-on-one about their health questions or concerns, I realize my home health experience has been invaluable. When organizing fun, health-related fairs and screenings, I draw upon my cruise ship experience. No previous knowledge or nursing experience has ever been lost or wasted. Occupational Health nursing is not about giving out Band-Aids and Tylenol. I help our employees when they are sick. I talk with people when their doctors don't have time to answer their questions. I help them to be as healthy as they can be. Getting a chance to do all the best things is why nurses go into nursing.
