I am currently a medical/surgical unit nurse manager at West Penn Allegheny Health System-Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, PA. I earned my nursing degree from Citizen School of Nursing in New Kensington and presently pursuing a BSN from Penn State University-New Kensington. I’ve been a nurse for 12 years. My past experience includes working in orthopedics for 10 years and functioning as a preceptor to new employees, a clinical coordinator, and interim supervisor before I transferred to the medical/surgical unit. I was appointed nurse manager in August 2001 and now serve on the Recruitment and Retention, Patient Satisfaction, Nurse Leadership and Physician Information Committees at Forbes Regional. I was also a three-time "Cameos of Caring" nominee at Forbes Regional, an honor I won in 2002. I developed an even deeper appreciation for nursing while caring for my younger sister who recently lost a battle to cancer. I consider my nursing skills to be a tremendous gift and blessing that helped me to comply with my sister's wish to remain at home throughout the final days of her life. Now that I have witnessed the difficult end-of-life decision making process in my own family, I have a greater appreciation for the fears of my patients and their families. The experience with my sister has strengthened my ability to care for the emotional needs of others during a difficult time.

always been more of a “calling” than a career. Nursing has provided
a way for me to live out my faith on a daily basis. ...
