Sharon J.

Lufkin, TX
RN, Medical/Telemetry

Graduation from high school in 1966 afforded me few career opportunities—teacher, secretary, or nurse. Fortunately, I made what I feel was the correct choice, and have now been a registered nurse for 36 years.

During that time, I have worked with hospice, home health, state school (MHMR), and in an acute care hospital setting. As it turns out, Medical/Telemetry was my “niche” and is where I currently practice.

In my current position as charge nurse on a busy 48-bed Med/Telemetry Unit, I live in the “best of several worlds.” I’m responsible for the day-to-day supervision of approximately 40 other nurses but still get involved in hands-on bedside care. I constantly find myself in a teaching role, sharing information and knowledge that only 36 years of experience can produce.

I look forward to retirement (when the time is right), but for now, I will continue to do what I do best—be a nurse!
