Torrance, CA
RN, MSN; Nursing Instructor/GI Nurse
My mother was hospitalized when I was young and I saw how caring
the nurses were. That’s when I decided that I would be just like
them when I grew up. I have now been in nursing for 12 years, and
I'm still loving it! Earlier in my career, I worked in nursing
homes and in the hospital as a med-surg nurse. After that, I spent
almost half of my nursing career in home care, first as a visiting
nurse, and eventually working my way up to the Director of Patient
Care Services position. A few years ago, I decided to leave nursing
administration to venture into a new specialty – gastroenterology,
or GI nursing. A year ago, however, I found my true calling as a
Nursing Faculty at a local community college. Currently, I work
part time as a GI nurse and full time as a nursing instructor. Having such a vast career option within nursing itself is what I
like the most about this profession. There are so many specialty
areas to choose from, there is no room for boredom or burnout!
Also, I think that nurses will never be unemployed as long as
they’re flexible enough to adjust to the changing needs of
society.
