Donna C.

Altamonte Springs, FL
R.N.C.: Pediatrics

I chose Pediatric nursing as a career because I wanted to care for children. Nursing gives me the opportunity to practice the art and science of healing. The majority of my 34 year career has been working with children. I have cared for children in general Pediatrics, Hematology-Oncology, Pediatric ICU and outpatient clinics. Pediatric nursing is a challenge because I care for both the parent and child, especially when a child is critically ill. An important part of my job is teaching parents and children the necessary skills to promote comfort and healing. I may teach about disease processes and recommended treatments. I may also teach about medications, personal hygiene, parenting, good nutrition, safety or lifesaving skills. Nursing has given me valuable skills that have been useful with my own family and friends. Nursing is a challenging and rewarding career that offers a variety of options for work settings and hours. I am fortunate to still have a desire and commitment to care for sick people. I am proud to be a nurse caring for the children who will be our future leaders of the world.
