Personal Information

  • Degree

    RN

I went to nursing school directly out of high school. At that time, women's career choices were limited. I really didn't know what to expect. Nursing has been a learning experience ever since then. Technology changes constantly and each specialty has its own functions. But what stays constant is fundamental nursing learned in nursing school, and it improves with experience. I started working in medical surgical nursing and tried several specialties. Some I liked and some I didn't. The beauty of nursing is that if you're not satisfied with the type of work you are doing, you can move on to another area. Today, I am amazed by the many career opportunities available to women and nurses. Nurses are involved in everything from hospital to home health care, and from the astronaut training program to the Central Intelligence Agency, to name a few. The profession has been beneficial to me. I was able to work part time or different shifts while raising a family. I was able to work in different states when I chose to relocate. There are many opportunities in nursing, and I hope that there are some great individuals out there looking for a career.
