To recognize and promote excellence in the nursing care of mothers and babies, the March of Dimes offers $5,000 scholarships annually to registered nurses enrolled in graduate programs of maternal-child nursing. This year, four nurses have been awarded the scholarships for their exceptional work in maternal and infant health.
Congratulations to the following 2013 scholarship recipients:
- Nicole Carlson, MS, CNM, of Decatur, Ga., who is pursuing a doctorate in nursing at the University of Colorado in Denver
- Kathleen Danhausen, SNM, MPH, of Nashville, Tenn., who is seeking a Master of Science in nursing with a specialization in nurse midwifery and family health at the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing
- Samantha Port, MSN, MBA, RNC-OB, C-EFM, of Campbellsville, Ky., who is pursuing a doctorate of nursing practice at Western Kentucky University
- Donna Schminkey, Ph.D.c., MPH, RN, CNM, of Harrisonburg, Va., who is seeking to obtain her doctorate in nursing from the University of Virginia
Applications for the 2014 March of Dimes graduate nursing scholarships will be available this fall at www.marchofdimes.com. Applications are due January 15, 2014. Applicants must be registered nurses currently enrolled in a graduate program in maternal-child nursing at the master’s or doctoral level, as well as members of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, or the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.
