This scholarship is part of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA) in America’s Opportunity Scholarships for Lutheran laywomen, the purpose of which is to provide assistance to women studying for a career other than the ordained ministry. This particular award is given to ELCA women studying for ELCA service abroad, either in general or in health professions associated with ELCA projects abroad. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 21 years of age or older, who hold membership in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Applicants must also have experienced an interruption in education of two or more years since completion of high school.
