The Ship Island - Mrs. J. O. Jones Memorial Graduate Scholarship was established in 1979 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in memory of Mrs. J. O. Jones of Gulfport, Mississippi. It honors her dedication to the Ship Island (prisoner of war camp) project. It will be awarded to a graduate student in the field of nursing who is also a descendant of a confederate soldier.
