The number one rule of nursing is that you must love patient care. If you stay focused on your patient, you can't go wrong. Nursing is such an all-inclusive field. As a nurse, I must have a broad knowledge base as well as critical thinking skills, computer skills and people skills. And it's such an exciting career -- after all, I get to save people's lives! As an Air Force nurse, I've had the opportunity to take on leadership positions by serving on several committees. I am involved in the decision-making process at the hospital and I know my opinions are valued. I feel very secure in my job because I know my love for nursing shines through in my work. I know if I work hard, I will always be in demand. The prospects for nurses are wide already, and they're expanding every day. Like everything in life, nursing is what you make of it.
