Sara Paul has been an advanced practice cardiovascular nurse for 27 years. She was a cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist 1986-1995, first at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, then at the Medical University of South Carolina. Since 1995, Sara has been a nurse practitioner, managing a population of heart failure patients. She developed and ran a heart failure clinic at Medical University of South Carolina for 7 years before moving to Hickory, NC. From 2002 to 2013, she was the Director of the Heart Function Clinic at Hickory Cardiology in Hickory, NC. In May, Sara began working at Catawba Valley Cardiology and Catawba Valley Medical Center to develop a heart failure clinic, as well as initiatives to improve care for patients with heart failure.
Sara is a founding member of the American Association of Heart Failure nurses, and has served as newsletter editor, Secretary for the Board of Directors, chairman of the annual meeting committee, and chairman of the Heart Failure Disease Management workshop. She is the editor of AAHFN's Core Curriculum Review book for the heart failure nursing certification exam, and is currently editing AAHFN's Heart Failure Disease Management book. Sara has numerous publications in books and journals, is the co-editor of The Nurses Guide to Cardiac Rhythm Assessment, and currently sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Cardiac Failure, the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, and Critical Care Nursing Quarterly.
